New Delhi: New Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan is "passionately concerned" about green issues, Jairam Ramesh said about his successor on Tuesday.
"I have known Natarajan for many years. She is also passionately concerned (about environment)," Ramesh, who is hailed for upgrading profile of the Environment Ministry, told reporters.
In the cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, Ramesh was promoted as Cabinet Minister and moved to the Rural Development Ministry while Jayanthi Natarajan was made Minister of State (Independent) for the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
Natarajan had spoken to him "many times" about environmental and forest issues, Ramesh said. "I know that she is very very interested. I am sure
that she will take this forward," he said.
He said his last 26 months in the Environment Ministry was "exciting, challenging and frustrating at times but never a dull moment".
"I tried to be transparent on whatever I did. I tried to be accountable. Some innovations that I introduced and I am sure that Mrs Natrajan would take this forward," Ramesh added.
