J&K: Farooq's 'cinema hall' remark sparks row
Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani hit out at Farooq Abdullah saying there was no place for such immoral things.

New Delhi: Union Minister Farooq Abdullah's remark saying cinema halls and liquor shops should be re-opened in Kashmir has sparked a debate in the valley. Farooq Abdullah questioned the rationality of not allowing them especially when people can watch pirated movies at their homes. He even pointed out that Islamist Pakistan allows cinemas.

Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani hit out at Farooq Abdullah saying there was no place for such 'immoral things' in the valley.

It all strarted when NC leader Farooq Abdullah said, "When we can have television at home, when we can watch pirated films at our homes what is wrong with cinemas then? Are not these functioning in Pakistan where there is

so much fervour about Islam?"

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted on the issue, saying, "Given that cable TV providers show all the movies that would come to cinemas and some that don't, will Geelani ask us to ban cable now? I'd be interested to know how many OIC member countries including Pakistan and Bangladesh allow cinemas to function in their countries."

What's your reaction?
