Kejriwal tables Jan Lokpal Bill in Delhi Assembly
Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs accused Speaker MS Dhir of being partisan.

New Delhi: It was a day of high drama, chaos and pandemonium in Delhi Assembly as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal defied Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and introduced the Jan Lokpal Bill even as Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs accused Speaker MS Dhir of being partisan.

While the L-G letter addressed made it clear that Jan Lokpal Bill cannot be introduced without the Centre's permission but the Aam Aadmi Party government stood its ground in the face of a sustained opposition onslaught. Both BJP and Congress MLAs came together to target the state government and called its actions unconstitutional.

The Opposition accused the Speaker of acting like an AAP member. He had earlier read out the letter.

"As the Speaker of the House, I have read out the L-G's letter and then given permission to introduce the Jan Lokpal Bill, let the House discuss the Jan Lokpal Bill," said the Speaker. The House has been adjourned for 30 minutes following chaos.

The Opposition members kept on shouting slogans and maintained that if a discussion had to happen on L-G's letter, a discussion should also take place on Law Minister Somnath Bharti.

The Speaker tried to convince the House to discuss and vote on L-G's letter on Jan Lokpal Bill with AAP MLAs alleging that the Opposition was trying to find an escape route.
