K'taka politics: Yeddyurappa to meet Governor today
The Governor is expected to invite the BJP-JD(S) coalition partners to form government.

New Delhi: The process of government formation in Karnataka is expected to gather pace on Friday.

The BJP's Chief Ministerial nominee B S Yeddyurappa will be meeting Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Friday, a day after President's rule was revoked there.

The Governor is expected to formally invite the BJP-JD(S) coalition partners to form the government.

The Assembly will then be convened and Yeddyurappa will have to prove his majority in the House.

The coalition has already paraded 129 MLAs before the Governor and the President, well over the 113 that's needed for majority. When appointed, Yeddyurappa will be the first BJP Chief Minister south of the Vidhyas.

Yeddyurappa now has the distinction of becoming the first BJP Chief Minister in southern India.

"I am an ordinary farmer's son," the new CM modestly said. "For the last 35-40 years, I have been working hard in my village."

For the Centre which had been dilly-dallying and studying each of Governor Rameshwar Thakur's reports carefully, it was a tough decision to take.

But PM Manmohan Singh, who was against prolonging the BJP's agony, finally had his way. He is also perturbed over the way the judiciary may look at yet another instance of the Centre forcing the governor to ignore the numbers, of BJP and the JD(S) which far exceed the majority mark of 113.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is now looking forward to a degree of cooperation from the BJP on the nuclear deal.

In an official statement, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, "The Cabinet has decided to recommend to the President of India that President's rule may be revoked (in Karnataka) and the Governor may be advised to invite Shri Yeddyurappa to form a government."
