Bellary: The Election Commission officials are conducting raids across Bellary district. They have already recovered cash, cheques and saving certificates worth Rs 45 crore from a local trader called Babulal alias Chor Babulal.
The EC officials are now raiding the house of a relative of Hospet BJP MLA Anand Singh. Anand Singh is in jail in connection with mining scam. B Sriramulu of the BJP is contesting from Bellary. He is taking on the Congress candidate Justice NY Hanumanthappa.
Sriramulu is a close confidante of jailed former minister and BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy. According to sources the recovered money was meant for his election expenses.
Four of Sriramulu MLAs are in jail in connection with mining scam. Bellary is one of the most expenditure sensitive constituencies in India.
