New Delhi: The BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi has thundered that he would put all MPs facing criminal charges in jail once he comes to power. He said that he would not spare even the candidates from his own party BJP and the NDA allies. The Modi admirers are hailing the decision. But, the reality speaks of an entirely different situation. Because every one out of three BJP candidate is facing criminal cases.
According to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) findings, over 32 per cent of the BJP candidates are facing various criminal charges. The BJP has fielded 394 candidates. When it comes to the candidates with criminal records, the BJP beats the Congress among the national political parties. The Congress has 26 per cent candidates with criminal cases against them.
Candidates with Criminal Cases: According to ADR report out of the 5380 candidates analysed, 879 candidates (16 per cent) have declared criminal cases against themselves. 32 per cent of candidates in BJP have criminal cases against them. Even more than the Congress with 26 per cent, SP with 25% and the BSP with 20 per cent candidates facing criminal cases.
The NCP and the Shiv Sena candidates have maximum number of criminal cases. 59 per cent of NCP candidates and 58 per cent of the Shiv Sena candidates are facing criminal cases. All MNS candidates (100 per cent) are facing criminal cases.
If all these 32 per cent of the BJP candidates win, then Narendra Modi will have a very tough job. His words will surely return to haunt him. The Congress says he is fooling the voters and since his party has highest number candidates with criminal cases, he has no moral right to make such strong statements.
