New Delhi: It will be only "fruits and lime -water" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whether it is a dinner by US President Barack Obama or scores of other engagements including a breakfast with the leading American CEOs during his six-day visit to the US.
The 64-year-old leader has been keeping the fast for many years during Navratri and this year will be no exception, Modi's associates said, adding that he will be taking "fruits and lime-water" during his US stay, which coincides with the festival in the honour of Goddess Durga this year.
Navratri, derived from the ancient Sanskrit words 'nine nights', falls this year from September 25 to October 3. However, PMO sources said his fast won't impact any engagements he will have during his official visit to the US.
Modi has a hectic schedule both in New York as well as in Washington. Apart from an address at the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister will hold a rally of Indian Americans at New York's Madison Square Garden and bilateral talks in Washington with Obama, who is hosting a dinner for the visiting dignitary on September 29.
