Srinagar: The uncertainty surrounding the BJP and PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir continues. It has been more than two months since the state has been without a government and a chief minister but that is not stopping the BJP and PDP from playing hardball.
Sources said that the PDP is unhappy with the BJP's mis-representations of the conditions agreed between the two allies.
The BJP has put the blame on the PDP saying it was the latter's responsibility to elect a chief minister but there has been no movement on that front. The BJP had earlier said that it will not accept any demands and that the government cannot be formed on any conditions.
The BJP feels PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is acting tough and says it will not compromise on issues of national importance. Asked about the new demands put forward by the PDP chief, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav said in clear terms that "whatever fresh has to done has to be done after government formation". "The first thing is that no new demand is acceptable to us and the second thing is that if there are new demands then it can be taken up once a new government takes over," he said.
Sources said Mehbooba told her party colleagues that the Modi government has to walk the talk first, before any government is formed.
PDP with 27 MLAs and BJP with 25 members had formed an alliance in March 2015 with Mehbooba's father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as the chief minister. Both the sides had formed an "Agenda of Alliance" which sought to address internal and external dimension of the state.
The PDP had toughened its stance after Sayeed's demise by seeking concrete plans for the state's development including handing over of power projects to the state and vacation of land by Army before the coalition could be resumed.
Governor's rule was imposed in the state on January 8 after Mehbooba decided against taking over the reins after her father's death.
