Srinagar: A day after Amit Shah's warning to the state Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti that the nation is above the government, the PDP hit back accusing PM Modi of shying away from his responsibility to take Vajpayee's legacy forward.
"I wonder why our Prime Minister, with a historic public mandate, is shying away from his responsibility by not carrying forward the legacy of Mr. Vajpayee and a former Prime Minister who said 'sky is the limit' on the issue of Kashmir," said Altaf Bukhari, a PDP minister.
Bukhari also said that BJP cannot put a rider on the agenda of the alliance.
BJP general secretary Ram Madhav has asserted that there is no rift between the PDP and his party and blamed lack of communication for the reported differences between the two partners in the recent MLC polls.
"There is no rift. There is some issue with regard to the MLC election. We noticed that there was some lack of communication between the two parties. Those things will be addressed," he told reporters.
Earlier, senior PDP leader and former deputy CM Muzaffar Hussain Baig said Mehbooba should "go back to the people," instead of "sticking to the alliance" with BJP.
There is disenchantment, inexperience and lack of commitment in the present coalition government. Mehbooba has to take a hard view of it," said Baig.
"If she doesn't find the coalition functional, she should not stick to it. She should go back to the people and try earning their trust again." he added.
National Conference President and Srinagar MP Farooq Abdullah said the alliance was a "painful joke".
