A group of pro-Telangana lawyers filed a petition that N Chandrababu Naidu had changed his stance on the issue.

Hyderabad: A local court on Friday directed the Chaitanyapuri police in Hyderabad to file an FIR and investigate into the allegation against TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu that he had changed his stance on the issue of separate Telangana state.

A group of pro-Telangana lawyers on Friday filed a petition before the 11th Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Ranga Reddy Court Complex, contending the TDP president had released his party manifesto before the 2009 Assembly elections, in which he had supported the formation of Telangana state.

"However, he backtracked on his promise immediately after the Union Government's December 9, 2009, statement on Telangana," they alleged.

"Naidu had got drafted resignation letters of his party's MPs and MLAs, belonging to Seemandhra region, to obstruct the formation of Telangana state.

Following this, on December 23, 2009, the Centre issued another statement on Telangana," the counsel of the petitioners Arun Kumar said.

"With Naidu changing his stance and supporting United Andhra Pradesh, it caused regional differences in the state. Over 800 youths, mostly students from Telangana region, committed suicide seeking statehood to the region," the counsel alleged.

After hearing the petitioners, the court referred the matter to Chaitanyapuri police asking it to file an FIR and investigate and also its status report by November 8.
