Puducherry Election Results 2021: NDA on Course to Form Govt, Wins 13 Seats and Leading in 2
According to the Election Commission, the AINRC secured 10, BJP three, DMK three, Congress two and the independents four. AINRC Chief and former Chief Minister N Rangasamy triumphed in Thattanchavady constituency and wrested the seat from DMK.

The AINRC-led NDA looked all set to capture power in Puducherry by winning 13 assembly seats and leading in two when the results for 22 out of the total 30 segments were declared on Sunday. The Congress-led front emerged victorious in five constituencies and the independents in four as the counting for votes polled in the April 6 elections, was still underway. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the AINRC secured 10, BJP three, DMK three, Congress two and the independents four. AINRC Chief and former Chief Minister N Rangasamy triumphed in Thattanchavady constituency and wrested the seat from DMK.

Ex-CM N Rangaswamy has won from his Thattanchadavy constituency. Rangasamy aspired for annexing two segments- Thattanchavady and Yanam- in the April 6 polls. However, his move to get elected from Yanam seemed to be a far cry to him as the Independent candidate Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok backed by the Congress turned out to be a formidable rival.

The Thattanchavady segment in Puducherry brought Rangasamy cheers as he annexed the seat with a margin of 5,456 votes over his immediate CPI rival K Sethu alias Sethu Selvam. A Namassivayam of BJP emerged victorious from Mannadipet constituency after defeating his DMK rival A Krishnan.

Counting of votes started at 8 am at all counting centres and all arrangements are in place to smoothly conduct the exercise as per Covid-19 guidelines. Two-time CM of Puducherry N Rangaswamy was one of the key candidates in the election again and has stood from Thattanchavady constituency.

The average percentage of voter turnout in the election was 81.64 per cent. 17 per cent of the candidates have declared criminal cases against them, which makes it 54 of them. Eight constituencies have three or more candidates with criminal cases. Among the 324 candidates in fray, 287 are men while only 38 are women. Age-wise, 109 candidates fall in the category of 25-40 years old, 175 of them are between the age of 41-60 while 39 candidates fall in the age bracket of 61-80. Among the 324 candidates in fray, 287 are men while only 38 are women. Directions, including RT-PCR tests and two doses of vaccination for candidates and agents to enter counting halls, would be followed strictly, authorities said. The Congress-led Secular Democratic alliance is vying for power with the AINRC-led NDA in the Union Territory which has 30 Assembly seats. While AINRC fielded candidates in 16 of the total 30 constituencies the BJP is contesting nine seats, while the AIADMK is contesting five seats. As many as 1,382 personnel would be deployed for counting of votes in the UT, while about 400 police personnel shall be on security duties.

A pre-poll survey conducted between March 5 and 12 by Cfore and Asianet News Network has found that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is riding on “popular wave” in Puducherry, pocketing 25 of 30 seats.

The survey predicted that All India NR Congress-BJP-AIADMK alliance will get 23-27 seats, while DMK-Congress will get three to seven seats and other may manage one seat or none.

The survey asked people about their opinion on resignation of PWD minister A Namassivayam (who was also former PCC President) and five other MLAs. Forty two per cent people said that the leaders made a mistake by quitting, while 29% people said that this was because of “bad style of functioning” of ex-chief minister V Narayanasamy and 18% said that the MLAs were “disillusioned and unhappy with the Congress”.

Cfore said in a statement that systematic random sampling methodology was used in selecting respondents for the survey. “In all 5,077 voters were interviewed using a structured questionnaire spread across all 30 constituencies. These respondents were spread across 223 urban 113 rural locations in the state,” it said.
