New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited the Nepal Embassy in New Delhi on Friday to condole the death of thousands who lost their lives to a strong earthquake that devastated the neighbouring country.

Rahul condoled the earthquake victims and also wrote a message in the visitors' diary at the embassy. He also spoke to officials at the Nepal Embassy.

Rahul on his visit offered all possible help to the Nepal Ambassador. Congress sources have told CNN-IBN that Rahul will look into the kind of relief operations that are being provided to the earthquake victims.

Rahul who has just come back from his 57 day long sabattical has been taking up many issues and has also been projecting a new image of himself in the Parliament. Rahul's visit to the embassy is being seen by many as an effort to regain political mileage.

The Himalayan country was devastated by a powerful earthquake last week which has left over 6,000 people dead and at least 11,000 injured.

India has played a key role in relief and rescue work in Nepal in the aftermath of the disaster.

The quake has also affected parts of India, particularly bordering Bihar, and has claimed the lives of over 70 people.
