Belgaum: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Monday shocked the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) leaders who called on him for support to their agitation for merge Marathi speaking areas in Karnataka with Maharashtra.
"Do not make this as an emotional issue. I know that in Maharashtra there are several leaders who want to exploit your emotion for political gain. Please be practical," he reportedly told the MES leaders.
The MNS chief also added that some people are trying to keep the issue alive for selfish gains.
"Are you being ill-treated in Karnataka only for being a Marathi or for agitating for the merger of Belgaum with Maharashtra," he enquired.
He asserted that in the wake of the clamour for Vidarba and Marathawada growing hoarse, there is no reason in adding another 25 lakh people to Maharashtra.
Raj pointed out that had the Shiv Sena exerted pressure on the NDA government when it was in power, the border dispute could have been solved.
