New Delhi: Hitting out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi over the Ram Setu issue, BJP general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday dared the DMK supremo to make such ‘sacrilegious’ comments about other faiths and gods as he did towards Lord Ram.
"Why this arrogance on the part of Karunanidhi. He is asking for Lord Ram's engineering certificate. Can he ask the same question about other religions?" Prasad said.
Charging Karunanidhi with pursuing double standards, the BJP leader said while the DMK leader asked about Lord Ram's engineering certificate, he was glorifying the PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madhani.
Holding that the BJP was not against the Sethusamudram project, he said the alternative alignment for the project was possible without damaging Ram Setu.
Stating that Ram Setu was part of India's cultural heritage, he said it also got scientific value as the region had rich thorium deposits.
Asserting that the issue involved questions of faith, environment and tsunami concerns, he said aligning with believers and nationalists, the BJP would stall "any move to destroy the Ram Setu."
Asking party workers to be ready for a snap poll to Parliament, he said the UPA government would fall any day.
