The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced its candidates from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Odisha for the upcoming Rajya Sabha Biennial Elections. The elections are set to take place on February 27.
Notably, the saffron party nominated party President JP Nadda from Gujarat, while Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and L Murugan as its Rajya Sabha candidates from Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, respectively. If elected, it will be the second Rajya Sabha term for the two leaders from these states.
The other candidates in the list included the names of Bansilal Gurjar, Maya Narolia and Umesh Nath Maharaj from Madhya Pradesh.
A total of 58 Rajya Sabha members — including eight Union ministers, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and BJP national president JP Nadda — will retire by the first week of May this year, news agency ANI reported.
JP Nadda to Contest from Gujarat
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday named party chief J P Nadda as its candidate for Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat. Along with the party president, Govindbhai Dholakia, Mayankbhai Nayak, Dr. Jashvantsinh Salamsinh Parmar are the other candidates from Gujarat for the Rajya Sabha elections.

The BJP fielded Congress turncoat Ashok Chavan, Medha Kulkarni, and Ajit Gopchhade from Maharashtra for the Rajya Sabha elections.
Chavan, a former Maharashtra chief minister, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party last week. He said he has joined the BJP to take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda.
BJD to Support Ashwini Vaishnaw
Soon after the BJP announced the name of Ashwini Vaishnaw for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) like last elections announced its support to the Union minister.
Releasing a statement, the party said, “Biju Janata Dal will support the candidature of Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Union Minister, Railways, Communication and Information and Technology for the larger interest of State’s Railways and Telecom Development in the ensuing Election to Rajya Sabha in 2024.”
Ashwini Vaishnaw, for the first time, was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2019 with the support of BJD. The Naveen Patnaik’s party with 111 seats is the only party in the Odisha Assembly that can send three candidates to the Rajya Sabha.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha Candidates from Uttar Pradesh
After Gujarat and Maharashtra, seven BJP candidates on Wednesday filed their nomination papers from Uttar Pradesg in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
Former Union Minister R P N Singh, former MP Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, state party general secretary Amarpal Maurya, former state minister Sangeeta Balwant, party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, former MLA Sadhna Singh and former Agra mayor Naveen Jain are among those who will contest elections.
BJP Set for Rajya Sabha Polls
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has so far announced its candidates from Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal for the Rajya Sabha elections.
The party on Sunday declared that it has fielded Dharmsheela Gupta and Bhim Singh from Bihar, and Raja Devendra Pratap Singh from Chhattisgarh. RPN Singh, Sudhanshu Trivedi, Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, Sadhna Singh, Amarpal Maurya, Sangita Balwant and Navin Jain will fight from Uttar Pradesh.
Subhash Barala has been fielded from Haryana, while Narayana Krishanasa Bhandage will fight from Karnataka. Mahendra Bhatt will contest from Uttarakhand and Samik Bhattacharya has been fielded from West Bengal.
On Monday, the BJP announced Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Rathore from Rajasthan as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha Biennial elections.
Three candidates from the ruling NDA alliance and one from the Congress on Wednesday filed their nominations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar, where six seats are falling vacant.
