Sanjay Singh Released From Tihar Jail: What Are the AAP Leader's Bail Conditions Fixed By Court?
The Rouse Avenue court has said Singh wouldn't comment on his role in the Delhi excise policy case. The court also fixed a few other rules for the leader

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh, who was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, walked out of Tihar jail on Wednesday after six months of his arrest in a case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

The AAP Rajya Sabha member addressed his supporters outside the jail and went to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, soon after.

Addressing supporters outside the Tihar Jail, the AAP leader said, “Jashn manane ka waqt nahi aya hai, sangharsh ka waqt hai (it is not a time for celebration, but time for struggle)…Our party’s senior leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia are being kept behind bars. I have confidence that the locks of the jail will break and they will come out.”

While granting bail, the Supreme Court said that the trial court (Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court) would decide his bail terms.

The Rouse Avenue court has said Singh wouldn’t comment on his role in the Delhi excise policy case. The court also fixed a few other rules for the leader.

Advocate Rajat Bharadwaj, representing Singh, told Special Judge Kaveri Baweja that the AAP leader was not at flight risk. He mentioned that barring one bail condition, the rest of the bail conditions had to be fixed by the trial court.

Here are the conditions fixed by the court:

  • The accused would surrender his passport
  • He would not tamper with evidence
  • He would join the investigation and provide his phone number to the investigating officer
  • He would follow the conditions imposed by the Supreme Court

Earlier, the court said that there was a condition that would not allow Singh to leave NCR could be imposed. Following this, Singh’s counsel requested the court that since election campaigning was underway, the MP would have to campaign at various places. This was followed by a request to set the condition that Singh would not be allowed to leave the country.

Allowing the AAP leader to move around, the judge said if Singh left Delhi-NCR, he must share a detailed itinerary with the investigating officer and keep his phone location on at all times.

Singh was arrested by the financial probe agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 4, 2023, in the Delhi excise policy case on the charge that Rs 2 crore illegal cash changed hands at his Delhi residence.
