Shiv Sena gives a memorandum to RR Patil on female commuter safety

Concerned over the security and safety of women on suburban local trains, Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe met Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil on Monday and handed over a memorandum to him. The Sena move came after a man boarded the ladies' compartment of a Western suburban local train and tried to molest a woman in on Saturday morning.

"Not only the railway police, but also the manager of that respective station is equally responsible for the incident," Gorhe said. Safety of women on local trains is the joint duty of the central and state governments, she said.

The issue will be discussed in the Legislative Council on Tuesday, she said.
