Speaker upset at being expelled, says Somnath's confidante
Chatterjee is upset that he couldn't explain why he couldn’t vote with BJP.

New Delhi: Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has confided to a confidante that he is upset at being expelled from the CPI-M.

According to Saifuddin Chowdhury, a former party colleague, Chatterjee is upset that he could not explain to his party why he couldn’t vote with the BJP during the Trust Vote in Lok Sabha.

“He is annoyed with what all that is going on after the expulsion, the gossips and scandals. He told me that he has been preparing to quit politics,” Chowdhury said.

The Speaker said he was so disgusted that he wanted to retire from politics and spend the rest of his life in Shantiniketan doing social service.

The Bolpur MP has been the target of a vitriolic attack by the Left leaders, who have branded him a "traitor", a "bourgeois" and one who always hankered for posts, after he presided over the July 21-22 trust motion, which the UPA Government won.

Asked when he would put forth his case in detail before the public, Chatterjee told IANS, "Whatever I have to say I'll say at a proper time."

On Sunday, Chatterjee was quoted as saying that he was now a "sinner" in the eyes of the party. "I am a sinner in the eyes of the CPI-M and not a gentleman. That's why they thought I deserved the summary expulsion," he told the Kolkata-based daily The Telegraph.

"Let them say whatever they are saying. I would like to see how far they can go," Chatterjee said about the allegations being levelled against him.
