Kotdwara: With just a month left for the Uttarakhand Assembly polls, Chief Minister BC Khanduri's close aide Bharat Singh Rawat's refusal to contest the elections has raised many eyebrows within BJP with many ticket aspirants terming it as a ploy to make way for his son.
Rawat, who is a probable BJP candidate for the Lansdowne assembly constituency considering his popularity in the region, has expressed to the party high command that his name should not be considered for the elections as youths should be given a chance.
"Now we senior persons in the party must give opportunity to younger generation to lead and we should guide them," he said.
However, his decision has raised many eyebrows within the party with many terming it as a ploy to make way for his son.
"Rawat is interested to give this seat to his son Dilip, therefore, all this ideal talk are being propagated," a ticket aspirant said on condition of anonymity.
Another BJP leader said Rawat is lobbying for his son and wanted him to contest from Lansdowne seat.
Elections to the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly will be held on January 30 next year.
