Vignesh Shivan’s upcoming directorial venture, LIC, has become the talk of the town for both its star-studded cast and recent legal troubles. The movie, featuring Pradeep Ranganathan, Kirthi Shetty, and SJ Suryah in lead roles, has encountered a setback after the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) issued a legal notice objecting to the film’s title. The controversy has gained further attention amid unconfirmed reports of Nayanthara, the lady superstar of Indian cinema and Vignesh Shivan’s wife, stepping away from her role in the movie.
Initially cast to play the elder sister of Pradeep Ranganathan, Nayanthara’s reported departure has prompted the filmmakers to seek a replacement for the pivotal role. Despite the buzz surrounding Nayanthara’s exit, neither Vignesh Shivan nor the actress has officially addressed the situation.
Vignesh Shivan, known for his directorial prowess, is making a comeback to the silver screen with LIC, following his 2022 release, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal. The film’s puja ceremony took place in December, signalling the beginning of its production phase.
While Nayanthara’s potential involvement had generated anticipation among fans, the uncertainty surrounding her participation has led to disappointment. The actress tied the knot with Vignesh Shivan in 2022, and the couple welcomed twins, Uyir and Ulag, through surrogacy.
LIC is a collaborative effort between Vignesh Shivan, Pradeep Ranganathan, and Krithi Shetty. Produced by Seven Screen Studio and Rowdy Pictures, the film boasts music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Ravi Varman.
The movie, abbreviated as Love Insurance Corporation, now faces legal challenges from the actual LIC (Life Insurance Corporation). Advocate Karthikei Balan, representing LIC, has issued a legal notice to the filmmakers, expressing concerns over the title’s similarity to the LIC trademark. The notice stipulates a seven-day deadline for the title’s modification, warning of potential legal consequences if corrective measures are not taken within the specified timeframe. As of now, the filmmakers have yet to respond to the notice.
