Apple has officially revealed that its Vision Pro mixed reality headset will be available to purchase on February 2 in the United States, following months of speculation. Pre-orders are set to begin on January 19 at 5 am PST—accessible through Apple’s online store and official Apple Stores. Priced at $3,499 (approximately Rs 2.9 lakh), the headset comes with 256GB of storage.
First unveiled at its WWDC 2023 event, the Vision Pro will be initially available in the US, with availability in other countries to follow at a later date.
What’s In The Package?
Apple has stated that the Vision Pro box will include the headset itself, a Solo Knit Band, Dual Loop Band, a Light Seal, two Light Seal Cushions, the cover for the front of the device, a polishing cloth, and a USB-C power adapter and cable.
Apple has also corroborated a long-standing rumor that the Vision Pro will indeed include ZEISS Optical Inserts for those who require prescription lenses or simply for reading. These inserts magnetically attach to the Vision Pro headset. They will be available for $149 and $99, respectively.
What Is Apple Vision Pro?
The headset is the company’s first new product line in years, following the launch of the Apple Watch in 2015. The iPhone maker claims that it is a ‘spatial computer’—designed to blend the digital with the physical world—while staying present and aware of their surroundings.
“The era of spatial computing has arrived,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Its revolutionary and magical user interface will redefine how we connect, create, and explore.”
The Vision Pro headset features two micro-OLED screens with a combined resolution of 23 million pixels. The headset is powered by the M2 chipset, Apple’s second-generation in-house chip. Apple has also added a new R1 chip to improve immersion and make virtual objects feel more realistic. The headset runs on visionOS, the iPhone maker’s new three-dimensional operating system, which was specifically designed for the new product line.
