New Delhi: Boeing is aiming to solve one of the problems that air travelers face- lack of sleep onboard. Those cramped, upright seats are uncomfortable to the extent of being torturous.

The company has filed a patent for a 'sleep support system' that unfolds into a pseudo massage table with a face relief aperture.

The Verge reports that the device is built into a backpack that can be stowed under an airline seat. Once you take out the backpack, all you need to do is unfold the head rest while the support straps connect to the top of your seat allowing you to lean forward and sleep face down.

The angles of the headrest and torso supports are adjustable and there is also a sling around the back that you can slip your arms into so that they are also supported.

Even as the system aims to provide a comfortable sleeping experience onboard, it comes with a set of problems including fitting the backpacks under the seats which will compromise on the leg space. Also, there will be hygiene issues involved. If ever Boeing takes to developing the product, it will have to furnish disposable covers for the head rest to take care of hygiene issues.

What's your reaction?
