Smartphones these days can handle wet conditions and manage to wipe off the dust without damaging the device thanks to the IP ratings available. For many years people used to dry their phones in rice which has been the go-to tip for people.
However, Apple has advised against using tricks like these to dry their wet iPhone which could prove extremely problematic. Apple has shared a new list of do and don’ts for iPhone users who end up spilling some water on it or completely dunk it mistakenly.
Generally, you would hear people say, don’t worry, just put the phone in a bag of rice, but Apple is warning people against doing that with their iPhones, as the small particles of rice could damage your iPhone. That’s not the only don’ts that Apple has shared for iPhone users in this support page this week.
The other two things that iPhone users should avoid are using an external heat source to dry out the iPhone, and definitely not inserting a foreign object like cotton swab or paper towel into the iPhone charging connector. So, what does Apple actually prescribe for iPhone users when their device gets wet?
The company advises people to keep the iPhone with the connector facing down in a dry area with some ventilation, which could go up to a day depending on the level of water the iPhone might have picked up when it was drowned. Apple says wait for at least 30 minutes before trying to charge the iPhone which could be the lightning or the USB-C port supported.
It must also be said that most iPhones launched in the past 3-4 years come with IP68 rating which makes them dust and water resistant but only to a certain level. Anything besides what the iPhones can handle, these support tips will come in handy for the affected iPhone users. Because if you do end up damaging the iPhone because of these wrongdoings, chances are you might have to spend big money to either get this device repaired or buy a new iPhone.
