New Delhi: After rolling out a beta version of its virtual assistant for iOS in November, Microsoft has now officially launched Cortana for both iOS and Android.
Akin to Apple's Siri and Google Now, Cortana allows users to set reminders, check weather, look up content on the web, etc. using voice-based search.
Users can further set and get location and time-based reminders across the phone or PC; track packages, flights, scores, stocks, or other important information.
While Cortana will function almost the same way as it does on Windows Phone some of the features are restricted on alternative platforms.
For example, on the iOS platform, a user can not open the Cortana app using just voice-based commands due to certain developer restrictions that do not allow full integration into iOS. On the other hand, Android users will have an edge over iOS users owing to Microsoft's partnership with Cyanogen that will have essentially all of the abilities Windows Phone users have over Cortana, including launching it without opening up the app.
Cortana for iOS and Android is available as a free download.
