New Delhi: In January, Microsoft released its Outlook app for iOS along with a preview version for Android. After updating Outlook for Android 17 times during this time, the app is finally out of preview and polished for a full rollout.

Outlook notes in its blog that its Android version has been improved for performance and stability along with localization, accessibility, and other finishes in order to be at par with the iOS version of the app.

The email app has a new polished look with updated icons and simplified fonts for a consistent experience across operating systems and devices. It has familiar Android design principles like the Navigation Drawer containing the tools and settings in the App Overflow menu.

It now has the ability to sync mail from email providers that support IMAP, like AOL.com and Comcast.net. A revised People section will now show a unified view of your contacts from all your email accounts. If you select a contact, you will be shown an option view their contact information, launch a new mail, start a phone call, or map your way to their location with a single click. Outlook will also provide quick-clicks to easily find all the emails, meetings and files shared with the particular contact.

Other updates include an option of Directory search, which helps you find a contact from your own company or school who is not saved as a contact. Typing in just the name of the person in the search bar and hitting Search Directory will curate the list of possible contacts. The same ability has been added to the compose email experience.

A three-day view in Calendar has been integrated that is especially useful for larger devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It further includes support for zero-length meetings, a 'remove from calendar' action for canceled meetings and an improved calendar day picker when creating and editing meetings.

You can use swipe gestures to easily navigate within the app. Outlook is now giving you the ability to customize these gestures for specific actions to match your emailing habits with respect to the device you use. Outlook has also added the ability to empty trash or permanently delete items from your deleted items folder.

The Outlook for Android app is available for download in the Google Play Store and is translated in 30 languages. The app supports Android 4.0 and above software versions.
