,The OnePlus 12 series has officially launched in India and global markets. Similar to the OnePlus 11 series, two models have been introduced in the lineup: the high-end OnePlus 12 and the more economically priced yet equally compelling OnePlus 12R. While much has been revealed about these phones, many are still not sure whether to buy the OnePlus 12 or OnePlus 12R. Here, let’s compare specifications and prices to see how these models differ so that you can make an informed buying decision.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Specifications Compared
It was expected for a long time that the OnePlus 12 would come with the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and the smartphone indeed does come with the same chipset. However, the OnePlus 12R is no slouch either with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which also powered the OnePlus 11 last year, and a host of other Android flagships including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Talking about the variants, the OnePlus 12 comes in two RAM options: 12GB and 16GB, while the OnePlus 12R switches this with an 8GB and 16GB model. The OnePlus 12 also offers more storage options thanks to the choice between its 256GB UFS 4.0 storage compared to OnePlus 12R’s 128GB and 256GB models.
Coming to the battery capacity and charging, the OnePlus 12 gets a 5400mAh battery that can be charged using a 100W fast charger, and it is the only the OnePlus 12 that supports 50W wireless charging out of the two models.
OnePlus 12R, on the other hand, gets a larger 5,500mAh battery with support for 100W charging as well.
And talking about software, both the devices run on Oxygen OS 14, based on Android 14, and will receive guaranteed Android OS updates for a period of four years.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Display And Design
With regard to display specifications, the OnePlus 12 is equipped with a superior 6.82-inch OLED panel. This panel features a QHD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a novel ‘Aqua Touch’ feature, which enables users to interact with the phone’s screen even in wet conditions, such as rain or while showering. In terms of specifications, the OnePlus 12 outperforms the OnePlus 12R’s 6.78-inch 1.5K panel, which also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. Notably, the OnePlus 12R also incorporates support for the Aqua Touch technology, making it a viable option for many users who are limited with their budget.
Furthermore, the remarkable aspect of both the OnePlus 12 and 12R displays is their support for a peak brightness of 4500 nits, placing them firmly within the category of premium smartphones.
Design has been another highly discussed change in this iteration. While the design elements remain unchanged, both models incorporate rounded displays, a metal frame, and a glass back, representing a significant upgrade from the OnePlus 11R’s plastic frame.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Camera
Optics are an essential component of any smartphone, and the OnePlus 12 series is no exception. The OnePlus 12, in particular, incorporates a triple camera system branded by Hasselblad. This system comprises a 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 3X telephoto lens, and a third 48MP camera with a 114-degree field of view (FOV). The OnePlus 12R is also well-equipped in the imaging department, featuring a 50MP IMX 890 sensor, a secondary ultra-wide lens, and a dedicated macro lens.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Price
Arguably the most significant aspect of any purchase, OnePlus has strategically priced these devices to align with their target audience. The OnePlus 12, featuring a 12GB+256GB configuration, is priced at Rs 64,999. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 12R, featuring an 8GB+128GB configuration, is available at a price point of Rs 39,999, which is the same with the previous OnePlus 11R. These smartphones are going to be sold through open sales starting on January 30.
