OpenAI has opened the world of GPT AI chatbots to the developers, giving them a chance to create custom chatbots that can be used by anyone with access to the GPT store. This is basically like an App Store but for AI chatbots that has been created by OpenAI to continue its progression in the field after the success of ChatGPT in the past 12 months.
The GPT Store was supposed to launch in December but a month’s delay works for everyone, especially if the product delivers on the promise and performs as per the expectations.
OpenAI is keen for people to showcase their AI chops and publish their chatbots that can become part of everyone’s tool set. The only catch about the GPT Store is that you need to sign up for OpenAI’s paid tiers like ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise or the all-new ChatGPT Team.
Like any app store, the GPT Store will look to incentivise the developers who post their chatbots for public use. It plans to start a revenue sharing program to entice more people to come on board its GPT Store which is understandable at this early stage.
The company has pointed out that the revenue sharing will be done based on the user engagement with their chatbots, which is most likely to look at the metrics of time spent on the chatbot among others.
But chatbots have triggered a fear of chaos and misinformation. How does OpenAI plan to tackle such chatbots infiltrating into the GPT Store?
The company is setting up the guidelines and a review policy which should take care of any issues and add to that, you have a reporting mechanism available to the users, who can report if they find the chatbot harmful or unsafe. A chatbot store was always likely to be part of OpenAI’s next phase of evolution which also helps it make money to run the systems for these AI applications.
