WhatsApp Brings New Text Formatting Shortcuts On Web And Mobile: Here’s How It Works
WhatsApp users already have a few formatting shortcuts but these new ones make the messaging app even more helpful.

WhatsApp is focused on bringing new privacy features for its users but this week, the messaging app has added something more important, i.e. new text formatting options. WhatsApp has announced four new text formatting shortcuts which adds to the existing list of options that allows you to text people in bold, italic style, put a strikethrough or even a monospace. But with the new shortcuts, WhatsApp users can add new elements like bulleted list, block quote, inline code and more.

WhatsApp is basically a messaging app, but the company realises that people use the app for more than just chatting, which explains the need to bring a Myself account to share notes and make reminders for yourself. These new text formatting options have been in testing for a while, and WhatsApp users can try them out on the desktop, Android, iOS and even the web version of the messaging platform.

WhatsApp New Text Formatting Shortcuts

The new four shortcuts for text formatting on WhatsApp are the following:

Bulleted list – You can now make bullet lists/points in a WhatsApp message. The shortcut for this is using the ‘-’ symbol, hit space and then write the message.

Numbered list – As the name suggests, WhatsApp now lets you quickly make numbered pointers in chats. For this to work, you need to write numbers, followed by a period and then hit the spacebar.

Block Quotes – That’s right, WhatsApp now offers block quotes to make it highlight before you send it on the messaging app. The shortcut symbol for this is ‘>’ then hit the spacebar, and type the text to send.

Inline code – And the last new shortcut works by using the ‘`’ symbol and putting the message within them.

Back in India, WhatsApp has launched a new helpline to tackle the menace of deep fakes and fake news as the country looks ahead to the big elections in the next few months.
