WhatsApp goes down on New Year's eve
WhatsApp said some users were facing issues while accessing its messaging service.

WhatsApp, the popular messaging service owned by Facebook, said some users were facing issues while accessing its messaging service.

The problems were primarily centered in the UK and Western Europe, according to DownDetector, a website that provides realtime overview of Internet and mobile services. However, some users in India have reported issues sending and receiving messages using the service.

The issue had began shortly after 4.30PM UK time (10PM IST) on New Year's eve.

WhatsApp says it is working to fully restore service. The company did not answer questions about the cause of the outage or when it started.

WhatsApp, however, did not provide any details on what led to the outage,

Facebook says WhatsApp has about 900 million global users.

Facebook also had a glitch on its flagship service Thursday that invited some users to celebrate "46 years of friendship on Facebook" with one or more of their online friends.
