Saundra Glenn, a 64-year-old woman from Luton, England, found a surprise of her lifetime when she had an extraordinary encounter at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, UK. It all happened when Glenn paused against a nearby fence when she struggled to walk towards the accessibility box office due to osteoarthritis and a troublesome right hip.
While catching her breath at the fence, a black Mercedes pulled up offering her a ride. Glenn was shocked to see none other than Chris Martin himself, the lead singer of the popular band Coldplay, in the car.
“The door was automated, and Chris Martin was sitting there. And I recognized him from feet away and I said, ‘Oh, that’s Chris Martin! I can’t get in a car with him!’ He said, ‘Yes, you can come on in,” Glenn told TODAY.com.
Glenn shared with BBC, “When we got to the artist area, he didn’t leave me there, he said ‘get the golf buggy and make sure Saundra reaches her destination.’ It’s the fact he’s conscious of disability, he’s such a kind person.”
She also recounted her humourous interaction with the singer, telling him, “I’m 64 Chris, I don’t do festivals, I’ve come just to see you and now I’ve seen you and I can go home.”
The duo discussed about various topics during their time together, including her advocacy work in Luton, Martin’s performance, and discussions on aging and relationships.
Glen later shared a selfie of her and Martin in the backseat of the car on X (Formerly Twitter). The accompanying caption read, “That moment when Chris Martin @Coldplay saw me struggling to walk, had his car stop and gave me a lift. Blooming amazing. Can’t believe this happened. What a decent bloke We had a nice chat too. He is single and likes #Luton Thx again @BBCR1 #BigWeekend #SeeMyLuton.”
