Doctors reportedly informed the woman that she might have contracted Hepatitis A.

After returning from a four-star holiday in Egypt, British traveller Olivia Hartley battled for her life due to hepatitis, allegedly caused by the resort’s poor hygiene. Hartley, spent £1,400 (approximately Rs 1.50 Lakh) on an EasyJet package to Hurghada in September 2023 with her fiance, Thomas Winn. After their week-long vacation, both fell ill, Thomas vomited six times on the flight, while Olivia had diarrhoea 48 hours after she returned home in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. Her condition worsened, as she was unable to consume food or water for three days and was hospitalized due to dehydration. Doctors discovered abnormal liver and kidney functions, which required urgent treatment to save her life.

As per Lad Bible, Olivia explained, “The food hygiene at the hotel was terrible. There were birds everywhere, food lay stagnant for a long, long time, they just poured new food on top of old food that had been out for hours. On the last day, me and my fiance both had a bit of a funny tummy. On the plane home, my partner vomited about six times. I was fine at this point then I started with vomiting and diarrhoea. Then I got to the point where I couldn’t keep down any liquids whatsoever. I was just vomiting everything up. I had horrific abdominal pains.”

Doctors reportedly informed Olivia Hartley that she might have contracted Hepatitis A, a liver infection spread through contact with the waste of an infected person. After diagnosis, Olivia was convinced she caught the virus from the hotel. Medical professionals were deeply concerned and told her that she might need a liver transplant if her condition doesn’t improve. Fortunately, she recovered but continues to suffer from the aftereffects of the illness and she may need a liver transplant anytime in the future.

She further shared, “The doctors told me my liver was in a very bad way and I have kidney damage from the dehydration. In my head, I was thinking the worst. It was a very scary time. No one could fully agree on a treatment plan. I felt very vulnerable. I was scared I would die. I asked ‘if I could go home,’ and they said ‘no, if you go into organ failure, you won’t make it to Leeds,’ it was very serious.”

After spending three horrible days in the hospital, Olivia Hartley was discharged, but she’s suffering from joint pain and fatigue. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turned into hell for her and her fiance. Olivia has learned that liver injuries can suddenly worsen without any warning, so she’s prepared for the worst at the moment.
