Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has been offered a Cabinet seat or advisory role by former President Donald Trump if he is re-elected. Musk backed Trump in July, just after the former president had a close escape from an assassination attempt during a campaign event in western Pennsylvania. With these recent comments, social media has been humming with numerous types of posts and one such update caught the attention of Musk.
“Donald Trump says he would offer Elon Musk a cabinet or advisory role if elected President,” an X page posted. In response, an X user named ‘Sir Doge of the Coin’ wrote, “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),” followed by a laughing-out-loud emoji.
The Tesla CEO re-shared the post with a brief statement. “Perfect name,” he said.

This comes days after Donald Trump made his comeback to X in the most dramatic way possible — a live appearance with Musk, the site’s current owner. The topic of the interview, which took place on Spaces, X’s live audio platform, ranged from union busting to illegal immigration.
Technical issues delayed the livestream’s debut by about an hour. Musk said that there seemed to be a “massive DDOS attack on X” some 20 minutes after it was scheduled to start. The two men constantly swapped praise. The Tesla CEO praised Trump for his courage during the assassination attempt last month, and Trump congratulated Musk for his willingness to terminate employees.
Shortly after the attempted assassination, Musk declared his support for Trump, even though the Republican was against the state providing subsidies to electric vehicle manufacturers like Tesla. In 2020, Musk supported Democratic President Joe Biden, but, since then, he has leaned right.
Rather than interrupting Trump when he made claims, such as that criminals from other nations were being sent across the southern border of the United States, or that the price of bacon had increased four or five times, Musk allowed Trump to steer the discourse. The speech was Trump’s most recent attempt to steal the limelight from Vice President Kamala Harris, his Democratic opponent, whose last-minute entry into the presidential race has energised her party and increased Democratic funding.
