IFS Officer Decodes 6 Life Lessons From Lok Sabha Election Results
The BJP-led NDA will form the government at the Centre after the alliance grabbed 293 seats.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election results threw many surprises. The BJP, which was expected to secure a majority on its own like in 2014 and 2019, won 243 seats. Though the BJP-led NDA will form the government after the alliance grabbed 293 seats, comfortably above the majority mark of 272. Narendra Modi will make history when he takes oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time.

The opposition’s INDI alliance won 232 seats in an electoral show that threw many predictions into a spanner. The main opposition Congress which won just 44 seats in 2014 and 52 seats in 2019 gained some ground to reach 99 seats this time.

An Indian Forest Service officer recently shared six important “life lessons” from the general elections. In a thread on X (formerly Twitter), IFS officer Himanshu Tyagi wrote, “BJP wins around 240: still considered losing. Congress wins around 100: still considered winning.”

For the first “life lesson” he referred to BJP’s fallen tally and said that one should always focus on improving. The second lesson was, “There will always be factors in life that are out of your control (caste and communal voting.) No matter how hard you try, you cannot change the course of time.”

He praised the determination shown by the opposition leaders even after repeated defeats. “Fail. Learn from your failure. Keep trying. Never give up. (Opposition not giving up.) The winds will turn in your favour.”

The fourth lesson he claimed was that, “Regardless of your credibility, you may be defeated by seemingly insignificant forces. (The defeat of prominent figures in Amethi.)”

Next, he asserted the importance of collaboration and wrote that when you are fighting a tough fight then it’s time to form a team and seek alliances.

The last and sixth lessons were about flexibility: “Time changes, so your strategy should also change. Be flexible, and change your strategy as per the circumstances. (With changing India, the Issue of development is becoming important.)”

An X user commented on this post, “Learning on the way. Good points jotted down.”

Narendra Modi is likely to take oath as the Prime Minister on Sunday after the NDA unanimously elected him as its leader at a key meeting in Delhi on Wednesday. The NDA passed a resolution to pick Modi as the leader of the alliance. “We all are proud that NDA fought and won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unitedly under the leadership of respected Shri Narendra Modi ji. We all unanimously choose respected NDA leader Shri Narendra Modi as our leader,” read the resolution.

According to sources, the swearing-in ceremony might take place at around 6 pm on June 9. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
