Travelling by train in India offers a wonderful experience, especially when delicious food is being offered. Meanwhile, sharing a hot meal with friends or family enhances the travel experience. Typically, the train provides pantry services for passengers, or travellers can purchase food during stops at railway stations paying a certain amount.

But, do you know that there is one special train in India where passengers enjoy food free of cost throughout the journey? This train is the Sachkhand Express (12715), where passengers are served hot meals throughout the entire trip, free of cost.

The Sachkhand Express runs between Amritsar and Nanded, covering a total distance of 2,081 km, connecting two prominent destinations for Sikhs- Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded. This train stops at 39 stations during its 2000 km long journey, and passengers are offered meals at six of these stops.

For the last two decades, food has been served on this train due to the presence of a langar inside the train. The free langar was started around 20 years ago, in 1995 and has served millions of passengers ever since. The passengers aboard the train often bring their utensils to receive langar which includes delicious meals like kadhi-chawal, dal, and sabzi.

Apart from these, the train also links New Delhi as well as the state capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal to towns and cities like Nanded, Parbhani, Jalna and Aurangabad of the Marathwada region of Maharashtra.

Nevertheless, with time, Indian Railways is trying to improve its performance when it comes to helping its passengers reach on time. But, due to unavoidable circumstances, trains often get delayed. For such scenarios, there are provisions made in premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto Express trains where meals are provided onboard and if one of these trains gets delayed, Indian Railways provide free meals to the passengers on these trains.
