The landscape of the railway transportation system in India has changed drastically with the introduction of Vande Bharat trains. These super-fast trains, boasting state-of-the-art facilities, have no doubt benefitted those who frequently travel across states due to work commitments. More than 80 Vande Bharat train services are currently in operation across states, which Broad Gauge (BG) electrified network, according to the Railway Minister. Yet, there are many people who find the ticket price of Vande Bharat too costly and thus, they still rely on old passenger and express trains having sleeper coaches.
In recent times, the railway ministry has received many complaints regarding the poor condition of traditional trains. There are a bundle of photos and videos on social media which justify their discontent. A few days ago, a passenger, travelling on the Maurya Express, expressed his dissatisfaction over the unhealthy ambience inside its sleeper coach.
A friend of mine was traveling in 15027 Maurya Express train yesterday. Condition of the train is so bad that air is coming from outside, all nuts and bolts are loose, wall are broken. Bas bhagwan bharose chal rha hai train pic.twitter.com/31NRh0Aqug— Rahul | Data & Tech (@yesrahulkr) March 7, 2024
A friend of the man shared a video on X (Formerly Twitter) where a crowded sleeper compartment of the Maurya Express could be spotted. The caption of the post reads, “A friend of mine was travelling in 15027 Maurya Express train yesterday. The condition of the train is so bad that air is coming from outside, all nuts and bolts are loose, and walls are broken. The train was running by God’s grace (Sab Bhagwan Bharose Hai).”
The clip was actually dropped in the comments box of another X post featuring a photo of a congested sleeper coach of an express train. The man who shared the image wrote, “Imagine you are travelling in a Sleeper coach of Indian Railways with your family. You have reserved your seat in advance or by paying hefty tatkal charges. You have a wife, old parents, or kids with you on the journey. Imagine them going to the washroom in a crowded reserved coach like this.” He tagged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the post as well to catch his attention.

Another person said, “I have stopped travelling in SL class even though I am barely able to afford 3AC or 2AC. SL has become a glorified GC. TTE’s are nowhere to be seen. These unreserved people empty the washroom water & make it stinkingly unclean, apart from blocking the way.”
