Trending: Bengaluru Man Alleges Auto Driver Harassed Him For Using Rapido Bike

There have been several reports of unruly behaviour by auto rickshaw drivers in Bengaluru. Passengers often complain about rude attitudes, refusal to use metres, exorbitant fares, and even physical or verbal abuse. Yet again, another incident has come to light where a Bengaluru man brought forward auto rickshaw drivers’ ‘goon behaviour’ and allegedly harassed him over a ride price.

Taking to Reddit, the user shared his harrowing agony and wrote, “Hello fellow Bangaloreans, I wanted to share a horrid experience I had last night with an auto- driver. I had booked an Ola auto from HSR to Whitefield at a certain price. However, upon arrival, the driver refused to accept my ride. So, I cancelled and tried looking for other options. The auto driver kept standing next to me and was continuously trying to instigate me to fight him.”

“I kept my cool and continued looking for other options. Finally, I was able to book a Rapido bike. But to my horror, he warned me that he would beat the Rapido driver and me. Since it was late in the night plus the crowd was dispersing, I started walking towards my nearest road junction, i.e., Bipin Rawat Chowk in HSR but he kept on following me,” the user further added.

The customer further went on to say that when his Rapido arrived, the autorickshaw driver removed the key from the Rapido driver’s bike, triggering an altercation. He then called out other autorickshaw drivers and circled them. All this time, they were trying to get help from the BLR Police Force, but the amount of back and forth they had to do just to register their problem was tiring and scary.

“We held our ground, and the police arrived after 15 minutes. We were then taken to the HSR police station where they made us sit for three hours just to get our complaint registered. That gunda auto driver had called his higher-ups to make me take my case back, but me and that Rapido driver didn’t budge,” the user posted.

The post further read, “The sub-inspector finally registered a case and gave a copy of my complaint. Though I have made the decision to not roll back my complaint, I am scared for myself and my family members here. These local goons have their own circle and may try to harm me and my family as we travel quite frequently using all these apps.”

Till now, the post has more than 690 upvotes, and the numbers are still increasing. The Reddit post resonated with several users, who took to the comments section to share similar incidents. Many called the Reddit user brave for handling the situation strongly and standing up to these scams, while others shared that they faced something similar and that the Rapido bike was scared of the auto drivers because of their goon behaviour.

“Really unfortunate that you had to go through this. But Kudos to you and to the Rapido driver for standing up to these scums. You are brave and you are awesome! I request you to stand your ground, stay strong, and have this guy punished,” expressed a user.

Another commented, “Around one weeks back, I also had a traumatising experience with a Bangalore auto driver. I somehow managed to run from the scene and save myself. These auto drivers think they are doing a favour for non-Kannada speaking people by accepting the ride.”

“This is a real problem. I have witnessed these Auto drivers harassing and beating Rapido drivers firsthand. Some Rapido drivers don’t even want to come and are terribly scared of auto drivers that they told me, “Don’t tell the auto driver that I am from Rapido, tell them I am your friend,” shared an individual.
