The elephant calf was pulled out of the river using ropes and later offered medical assistance.

The monsoon brings a much-needed respite from the sweltering heat but excessive rain can sometimes lead to challenges like overflowing rivers and flooded roads. Not just for humans, the floods often threaten the lives of wild animals. A recent viral video from Assam shows an elephant calf getting rescued from a flooded river in Assam. The prompt action of the officials involved in the rescue is now earning praise online.

Shared on X by Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the video shows struggling to withstand the strong current of the river. The trapped elephant keeps its trunk above the water while approaching the bank. As the animal came closer to the bank, an official spotted it and decided to help. He tied a rope around the elephant, and other forest officials pulled it out.

Later, the calf was wrapped in a cloth and examined properly.

“Recently, our forest officials rescued a baby elephant who lost her way along the Aie River in Chirang. She is currently being treated at Manas National Park as we try to establish contact with her mother,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in the post.

People appreciated the work of these forest officials while replying to the post. “Very good Work,” said one user while another commented it was a “Good effort.”

Some individuals also hoped that the calf would reunite with its mother soon, A person said, “I pray to God to find the mother of the elephant, sir,”

Another user commended the rescue operation and stated, “My Salute to the forest official team. Also happy to know the head of Assam state cares for other beings too!”

Earlier, a similar rescue operation was conducted in Tamil Nadu. IAS Supriya Sahu shared about the incident in which a team of forest officials rescued an elephant calf that had fallen into a canal in Pollachi, a town in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu.

The mother elephant attempted to rescue the calf but was unable to do so due to the heavy water flow.

A team stepped in and rescued the calf from the canal, which was later reunited with its mother. One of the clips shows the mother elephant raising her trunk to express her gratitude.
