Trump’s Vice Presidential Shortlist is Out, Two Indian-Americans in the Fray
Former US President Donald Trump said that five Republicans and one Democrat are in the fray for becoming the next vice president.

Donald Trump on Tuesday said five Republicans and one Democrat are on his shortlist for potential running mates in the upcoming presidential elections.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, onetime Democratic presidential primary candidate Tulsi Gabbard, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Florida House of Representatives member Byron Donalds and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are on his shortlist, Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Tuesday during a town hall event.

The audience members present there responded by saying these were good choices for the role.

“Are they all on your shortlist?” Ingraham asked Trump.

“They are. They’re all solid. And I always say I want people with common sense because there’s so many things happening in this country that don’t make sense,” Trump said.

“(The) first quality (I am looking for is their ability to act as) a good president because if something should happen, you have to have somebody that’s going to be a great president,” he further added.

He then said that it does not matter who the running mate contenders are but what matters is who is running for president. “The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice has absolutely no impact. It’s whoever the president is, it just seems,” Trump said.

“You would like to get somebody that could help you from the voters standpoint,” he further added.

Trump did not share a time frame regarding when he would announce who would finally be his running mate.

He teased in January that he has already decided on who his running mate would be. But, following Tuesday’s town hall event it seemed that the former president was yet to make up his mind.

Trump also highlighted earlier that the last remaining GOP primary opponent – former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley – will not be on his ticket and added that he made the decision long time ago.
