Honda recalls 11,381 units of Accord, CR-V, Civic cars in India
Honda Cars India is recalling a total of 11,381 units of Accord, CR-V and Civic, manufactured between 2003 and 2007, to replace a faulty part in the passenger and driver side airbags.

New Delhi: Honda Cars India is recalling a total of 11,381 units of Accord, CR-V and Civic, manufactured between 2003 and 2007, to replace a faulty part in the passenger and driver side airbags.

The recall, which is part of Honda's global campaign of fixing potential defect related to airbags, would cover 10,805 units of premium sedan Accord, 575 units of sports utility vehicle CR-V and one unit of Civic sedan.

"The company would carry out preventive replacement of passenger side airbag inflator of 575 units of CR-V manufactured in 2004 and driver side airbag inflator of 10,805 units of Accord manufactured between 2003-2007 as part of Honda's global recall/safety improvement campaign concerning airbag inflators," Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said in a statement.

Besides, the passenger side air bag inflator of one unit of Civic of 2004 make will be replaced, it added. "The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India from June 4, 2015 in a phased manner," the company said.

In June last year, Honda Motor Co had announced recalling over 20 lakh vehicles globally over potentially flawed airbag inflators made in 2000-02. The company had also recently announced recalling another 4.89 million vehicles globally to fix airbag issue.

In July 2014, HCIL had recalled a total of 1,338 units of Accord and CR-V, manufactured between 2002 and 2003, to replace faulty inflators in the passenger side airbags. Later in October, the company had recalled 2,338 units of its hatchback Brio, compact sedan Amaze and CR-V, manufactured between September 2011 and July 2014, to replace faulty inflators.

Ever since the auto industry body SIAM started voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issues in India in July 2012, over seven lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers in India.

Meanwhile, the government is working on a recall policy.
