There is no stopping Lakshya Sen at the moment as the Indian shuttler would dominate Belgium’s Julien Carraggi in two straight games to clinch another victory in the group stages of the Men’s Badminton at the Paris Olympics on Monday.
Sen indulged in an exciting matchup against the unranked Belgian, as the Indian marched on in two straight sets of 21-19, 21-14.
Sen’s victory over Kevin Cordon, a Tokyo Olympics semifinalist, in the opening Group L match on Sunday was “deleted” after his Guatemalan opponent pulled out of the Olympics due to a left elbow injury.
Sen, a gold medallist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and bronze winner at 2021 World Championships, will face third seed and world number three and reigning Asian champion Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in his final group match on Wednesday.
The match will decide which of the two players moves forward in the competition as only one each from the 16 groups will qualify for the pre-quarters.
The first game of the encounter was no easy walk for Sen, who after a fairly good start, went point-for-point as the Belgian Carraggi turned up the pressure on the Indian to keep the game tight.
After losing his inital lead, Senw as forced to fight from behind, and thereby ensued a tremendous comeback, as Sen clawed his way to tie up the game at 18-18, before finally getting the better of his opponent to edge out a 21-19 win.
It seemed as if the Belgian Carraggi though lost his focus and composure quickly, as it was nothing but utter domination from Sen in the first half of the second game, as the Indian raced to take a huge 11-4 lead at the halfway break.
The Belgian though would find his rhythm once again after the break, as Carraggi go on the offensive and put up a comeback of his own to bring the deficit down to 4 points, to stand at 14-10 with Sen leading still.
Sen though would go on a scoring rampage next and smash four points staright, to take a 18-10 lead, befoer ultimately finishing off the Belgian to win the second game 21-14, and seal his victory.
