Markets flat amid volatility
At 1120 hrs IST, the Sensex was down 1.92 points or 0.01 per, and the Nifty down 6.20 points or 0.16 per cent.

New Delhi: After opening in green on Monday, the markets became flat amid volatility.

After remaining in negative zone for four straight sessions, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark, Sensex, recovered over 90 points in early trade on the back of selective buying in blue-chip stocks.

But volatility sets in soon after as IT, oil and gas, auto, consumer durable and capital good stocks start trading weak, however, metal, FMCG and banking stocks were able to hold the ground.

At 1120 hrs IST, the Sensex was down 1.92 points or 0.01 per cent at 13630.61, and the Nifty down 6.20 points or 0.16 per cent at 3932.75.

The 30-share index had lost more than 770 points in the past four sessions.

Stocks of Transwarranty and C and C Constructions were listed on the bourses on Monday.

Transwarranty Finance opened higher at Rs 63 against the offered price of Rs 52, while C and C Construction after commencing higher at Rs 350 dipped to Rs 244.05 against offered price of Rs 291.

About 1077 shares have advanced, 1039 shares declined, and 47 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are ITC at Rs 171.85 up 3.46 per cent, Satyam at Rs 461.90 up 2.93 per cent and Tata Steel at Rs 471 up 2.57 per cent.

Top losers on the Sensex are Reliance Comm at Rs 422.85 down 2.2 per cent, Reliance at Rs 1,397.50 down 1.08 per cent and Infosys at Rs 2,213.50 down 1.07 per cent.

Most active shares on BSE are Reliance at Rs 1,397.50 with 5,39,157 shares, Firstsource Sol at Rs 84.25 with 49,77,787 shares and Reliance Comm at Rs 422.85 with 8,83,609 shares.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 189 up 0.83 per cent from its previous close of Rs 187.45.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,393.10 down 1.39 per cent from its previous close of Rs 1,412.80.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,216 down 0.95 per cent from its previous close of Rs 2,237.35.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 172 up 3.55 per cent from its previous close of Rs 166.10.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 275.30 up 0.11 per cent from its previous close of Rs 275.
