New Delhi: After opening firm on Wednesday morning, the markets have further moved northwards.
At 1105 hrs (IST), the Sensex was up 134 points at 11781.
The Nifty was up 35 points at 3498. The CNX Midcap is up 44 points at 4972.
The markets opened on a firm note after the fall of three consecutive days.
At 0957 hours IST, the Sensex was up 72.36 points at 11719.14. The Nifty was up 11.80 points at 3474.25. The CNX Midcap was up 26 points at 4953.
The market breadth is positive, about 929 shares have advanced, 291 shares declined, and 22 shares are unchanged.
Experts say that the overall the long-term trend in the market is still northwards although volatility, coupled with tomorrow's expiry of contracts in the F&O segment, will keep investors on the edge.
Metal stocks like Tata Steel, Hindalco, Sail and Hindustan Zinc are witnessing buying at the bourses.
JSW, Tata Steel, Mittal Steel & Arcelor are in race for smaller steel plants, which are up for sale.
Pharma stocks including Cipla and Ranbaxy have also moved up.
Power stocks like Tata Power and NTPC have also gained.
Maruti,Gujarat Ambuja Cements, Patni, Aban Loyd, Mahindra Gesco, Ashok Leyland, Satyam and MTNL are the major gainers on the indices.
