More than 2 crore Indians were tuned in on the streaming website on Friday night to witness the final moments of the sensational contest between Pakistan and South Africa in the ICC World Cup 2023 encounter in Chennai on Friday. Chasing Pakistan’s target of 271, South Africa looked well on course before Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf brought in timely and major breakthroughs to keep Babar Azam’s men in the hunt.
South Africa, once going strong at 206/4 in 33 overs, were left tattering at 260/9 with Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi given the uphill task to see Proteas to the finishing line.
The duo stuck around with some luck riding in their favour when a not out lbw call given in favour of Shamsi was upheld despite Pakistan’s review due to umpire’s call with South Africa still needing 8 runs to win. South Africa grabbed the opportunity with both hands and reached the target with 16 deliveries and only a wicket in hand.
While Pakistani fans had a meltdown of epic proportions, Indian cricket fans came out in massive numbers to troll the cricket rival nation with choicest of memes.

It was Maharaj who struck the winning boundary pulling away a short delivery from Mohammad Nawaz. This was South Africa’s fifth win of the competition taking them to the #1 spot on the points table and edging India with superior net run rate.

Earlier, Skipper Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel struck fifties but Pakistan batters frittered away good starts to be bowled out for a below-par 270 by South Africa.
South Africa thereby ended their 23-year-long wait for an ODI World Cup win over Pakistan.
