It actually might not be in Australia's 'best interest' to attempt to manipulate the NRR to force England's exit in the T20 World Cup 2024 in group-stages.

England might be able to rest easily knowing the fact that Australia might not be able to attempt to manipulate the result of their final game against Scotland in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking after the game against Namibia, Josh Hazlewood had spoken at a press conference that it would be in the team’s best interest to prolong their game against the Scots and hope that the net run rate is too much for their rivals England to catch up on in their final two group-stage fixtures.

Should the Aussies go ahead with this approach, it could see their skipper Mitchell Marsh being suspended for two of their Super-8 games in the tournament for violating the ICC’s Code of Conduct.

According to the ICC’s Men’s T20I Playing Conditions document as per the official website, it would be deemed as a breach in the Spirit of Cricket, should Australia attempt to manipulate the NRR to knock out the defending champions.

According to the 2.11 section of the ICC Code of Conduct document, it could be deemed as an attempt to manipulate an International Match for inappropriate strategic or tactical reasons. This would be counted as a Level 2 offence of the ICC Code of Conduct

England has not lived up to the tag of defending champions with the side yet to win a game in the T20 World Cup 2024. They will hope that they can win their remaining games against Oman and Namibia by a massive margin to ensure that they get through to the Super-8s.

Australia have already secured their spot to the next stage of the tournament having won all three of their games so far and have their last one against Scotland where the side could look to give some game time to the bench.
