'Thanks For the Priceless Birthday Gift': MS Dhoni Congratulates Indian Team For Bringing The 'World Cup Home'

It took India winning their second ever T20 World Cup title for MS Dhoni to end his absence from social media as he celebrated their triumph by congratulating them for the historic triumph. Dhoni, who rarely posts on any of his social media handles, took to Instagram to share a photo of the Indian cricket team and thanked them for an early ‘priceless’ birthday gift.

India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup, played in Barbados on Saturday, to become the first ever team in history to win the title unbeaten.

“WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was up, well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did,” Dhoni wrote on Instagram.

“From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home. CONGRATULATIONS. arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift,” he added.

It was Dhoni who was the captain in 2007 when India won their first ever T20 World Cup title, beating Pakistan in the final. Four years later, he would lead them to title triumph at the 2011 ODI World Cup before completing the troika of ICC white-ball titles as captain by winning the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.

However, after 2013, India came made it to the final of ICC events as many as five times but ended up runners-up on all occasions. Their 11-year-old wait for a global trophy came to an end on Saturday with a thrilling win over South Africa at the Kensington Oval.

Batting first, Virat Kohli’s 76 and Axar Patel’s 47 guided India to 176/7 in 20 overs.

And then they kept South Africa to 169/8 with player-of-the-tournament Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) producing a game-changing spell to help India bounce back and seal the deal.
