The recruitment examination for security guard positions (Bihar Vidhan Sabha Security Guard Exam) at the Bihar Assembly has been invalidated, prompting the scheduling of a fresh examination at a later date. The preliminary exam, conducted on September 10, aimed to fill 69 Security Guard (Marshal) positions and saw participation from over 27,000 candidates. Following this, physical examinations and efficiency tests took place from January 19 to 22 this year. Concerns about transparency in the examination process were raised, leading to an investigation by the Assembly Secretariat. After careful deliberation, it was decided to cancel the exams conducted under advertisement number 01/2023 for security guards.
Ram Kumar Yadav, deputy secretary of the state assembly secretariat, issued a notification stating, “After reviewing the received reports, the examination has been cancelled. Further details will be made available on the Bihar Assembly website.” Assembly Speaker Anand Kishore Yadav mentioned that he is investigating the matter. Following the decision to cancel the examination, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Assembly Speaker. This marks the first decision of the NDA government to revoke a decision made by the Grand Alliance government. While applications were invited for recruitment to other positions in the Assembly as well, it remains unclear whether they are also being investigated.
Sinha, who previously served as the Assembly Speaker, remarked, “We repeatedly raised concerns with the Grand Alliance government regarding Assembly recruitment. We addressed letters to the Chief Minister and the Governor and even brought them to public attention through the media. However, no action was initially taken. Rectifying the mistake fell upon the NDA government. A thorough investigation is necessary to uncover any corruption or malpractice in the recruitment process.”
He shared that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi strives for a corruption-free nation, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also vehemently opposes corruption. Sinha added, “Corruption and dynasty politics are interlinked, as they breed each other.”
It’s worth noting that last month, the Bihar government issued an order to review the work and decisions made by RJD ministers who were part of the Grand Alliance government. Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary stated, “Our government is committed to combating corruption. Any past discrepancies will be addressed and rectified. A comprehensive review of all decisions will be undertaken.”
During his speech to secure the trust vote, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also mentioned receiving information about irregularities and pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
