Aayush Sharma and Arpita Khan Sharma first met through common friends at a party in 2011. While it was he who popped the question, she took her own time to reciprocate her feelings for him. Eventually, in November 2014, the lovebirds tied the knot. They are now parents to a son named Ahil and a daughter, Ayat. The lovebirds will be celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary this year and needless to say, their marriage is still going strong.
In 2019, however, rumour mills were abuzz with stories of their divorce. Recalling the ‘bizarre’ episode, Aayush told News18 Showsha exclusively, “Nobody has been that interested in my life to float rumours about me around. But I remember a very small incident. I took my son out for dosa and when we were coming out, the paparazzi caught me and asked me if Arpita and I were filing for divorce.”
While Aayush was taken aback by the news initially, he along with Arpita burst out laughing as a reaction to the conjecture. “I was just so surprised! I took my son out for a snack and ended up facing questions about our divorce. When I came back home, I asked Arpita if she was going to divorce me. And we had a good laugh over it,” says Aayush, who was recently seen in the actioner, Ruslaan.
According to him, Arpita has been a pillar of support for him through his professional upheavals while also being a critic of his work. “Arpita is a very harsh critic. But she’s more honest than harsh. She’s somebody who watches films very objectively. She has a very different sensibility compared to the kind of films I make. She knows that I like making mass films but she’s into films based on true stories,” he tells us.
Talking about how he always looks forward to her input and validation, the Loveyatri actor remarks, “She appreciates good content. She likes films that are shorter and emotionally driven. She has a very different take on cinema, which is somewhat of a grounding exercise for us. She’s a very critical person. While watching my films, she gets into the continuity. If there’s a continuity jerk, she’ll have a problem.”
Aayush shares that it has often happened that Arpita has disliked his films and has asked him to remove certain scenes before releasing them. “She gets into the colour combination of the clothes I’m wearing and questions why certain scenes look a certain way and why my character did what he did. If she doesn’t like something, she tells me to take that bit out,” he states.
Aayush further adds, “When I watch the rushes of a film that I’ve acted in, I make my family and kids watch the sequences multiple times. And one good thing about Arpita is that she never watches my films with the notion that it has her husband in them. She looks at them as an audience who has bought a ticket and then shares her opinions on whether she liked me in the film or not.”
