Akshay Kumar starrer Sarfira is all set to release this weekend. The film is a remake of the National Award winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, which starred Suriya. The Hindi remake is directed by Sudha Kongara, who helmed the original version as well. While the cast and the set up are different from the original, Sudha retained Paresh Rawal as the negative character of the film. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Sudha revealed she wanted only Paresh in the role in Sarfira. However, her biggest concern was if he would be willing to do all of it again.
Turns out, he was not only ready to star in it but was also the biggest cheerleader of the film. He was also one of the people who encouraged Sudha to remake the film in Hindi. “I don’t think there’s anybody else who can play this better than him and my only concern was would he agree to reprise the same role and would he be okay. He was so enthusiastic. The Tamil film was quite a torturous process for him because of the language so at least I think here, he had the pleasure of doing the part and it was really good,” Sudha said.
“I remember before signing him on and before committing, there was a little bit of delay because we were not certain on the dates. He called the EP and asked, ‘Am I in or out? Am I flying or not? Am I on the flight or not?’ He’s a very funny person. There was never a thought of using anybody else in that role,” the filmmaker added.
Sudha said that Paresh had spread a lot of positive word of mouth when Soorarai Pottru was being made and released. He also repeatedly asked her to remake the film in Hindi. “When I first approached Paresh sir, he was the one to say this film has to be made in Hindi. He has told at least 200 people that this film should be made in Hindi. I remember him talking so much about the film with certain actors that those actors started reaching out to us saying they want to do the remake of the film. I think (re-casting Paresh Rawal for the same role in Hindi) was a no-brainer,” the director said.
Written by Sudha and Shalini Ushadevi, with dialogues by Pooja Tolani, and a G.V. Prakash Kumar musical, Sarfira is produced by Aruna Bhatia (Cape of Good Films), South superstars Suriya and Jyotika (2D Entertainment) and Vikram Malhotra (Abundantia Entertainment). Mark your calendars for July 12th as ‘Sarfira’ takes you on an exhilarating journey of ambition, determination, and the relentless pursuit of dreams.
