New Delhi: Germany captain and Chelsea's Michael Ballack has joined the global fight against AIDS, appearing in a public information film aimed at young fans.

The German captain joined the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS in May last year to raise awareness on AIDS issues.

Appearing in a short video shot at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground in west London, Ballack is shown telling viewers, "On the pitch you can play hard and take risks to score. But with HIV you play with your life."

Ballack, who missed Chelsea's weekend victory over Middlesbrough due to injury, also spoke about Chelsea's chances of retaining their Premiership title.

"Yes, we try but at the moment we are six points behind Manchester United but it's not a drama I think. We had a little bit of a problem with injuries and so on before players came back but we have a very strong team and we try our best and I think we have good chances to win (the league) again," Ballack said.

Chelsea are currently behind Manchester United in the Premiership table.
