West Bromwich: Peter Odemwingie scored late in his West Bromwich Albion debut in a 1-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.
Odemwingie found the net in the 81st minute at The Hawthorns as West Brom rebounded from a 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea on the opening day of the season. The Nigeria striker only joined West Brom on Friday on a two-year contract from Lokomotiv Moscow.
The 29-year-old forward collected a pass from James Morrison before turning and scoring past goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt struck the crossbar with a long-range drive in the final minutes.
Odemwingie looked dangerous from the start of the match, shooting wide in the eighth minute after latching onto Brunt's through ball. While Morrison and Brunt also tested Mignolet once, the Baggies' passing game clicked into gear midway through the first half.
West Brom thought it had a penalty when Sunderland attacking midfielder Jordan Henderson looked to have handled the ball in the box late in the first half but referee Kevin Friend waved play on.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce threw on Danny Welbeck, signed on loan from Manchester United, and former Netherlands winger Boudewijn Zenden with a little over 20 minutes remaining but to no avail.
